On Friday, September 4, 2020, the Aso Rock Villa hosted what Nigerian press termed as “First Marriage”, not only because it was the president daughter’s wedding, but also because that was the first time an event of this nature with such grander ever took place in the set of the Nigerian power. The wedding was that of a display of power and wealth indeed, as both, the groom and bride are from Nigeria’s political elite families.

The bride was Hanan Buhari the youngest daughter’s of the Nigerian president Muhammed Buhari, and the groom, Muhammed Turad Sha’aban is a Special Adviser to the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola. His dad, Mahmud Sani Sha’aban, was a member of the House of Representatives and a friend of the president Buhari. He represented Zaria in the House of Representatives from May 2003 to May 2007. He was also two times candidate for governor in Kaduna State, under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and the All Nigerian Political Party (ANPP) in 2007 and 2011.

Earlier this year, some media outlets in Nigeria, have announced that the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, had flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in a private jet belonging to billionaire Mohammed Indimi for the purpose of shopping for luxury items for Hanan’s wedding. Indimi’s son is also married to one of Buhari’s daughter.

Hanan Buhari is the youngest of the president Muhammed Buhari’s daughters, however, she is the most known of the president’s children to the Nigerian public. This is, probably, due to her lifestyle and her passion for arts. In a highly conservative society like the Fulani are known to be, women, even if well educated, are expected to keep a low profile. Hanan, however, leads a very public life through her presence in social media and photo exhibitions. She graduated with a first-class in Digital Photography in December 2019 from Ravensbourne University, London. She is passionate about photography. She had held an exhibition in Abuja in 2017, where she showed some of her projects. Tagged “Innovation by Hanna”, which attracted top names in government and industry’s A-list. She was lauded for contributing to changing the perception about photography, which is no longer for dropouts and the less-privileged in the society, but for the highly talented. Following her passion for arts, the Fine Arts Photographer has since begun her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in the same university.

Turad holds two master’s degrees in finance and management. One obtained from the American University of Dubai, and an MBA from Northampton University, United Kingdom. He holds advisory jobs in many companies both private and public in Nigeria and abroad. He has worked with reputable companies in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) such as Nexus Financial Advisers.

The event was attended by many notable guests among Nigeria’s elite such as the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo, the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi and his wife Bisi, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.
